April is the month for celebrating Vaisakhi an ancient festival celebrated by Sikhs and Hindus. For many thousands of years, Vaisakhi (also known as Baisakhi) has been the time when farmers have put their sickles to harvest and celebrated the coming of a new year. As well as celebrating the harvest, Vaisakhi celebrations also mark historical and religious significance for those of the Sikh faith. For many the festival is marked by colourful processions, full of people coming together to celebrate this spring festival and share food.
